Liquorice root is a favourite ingredient for many Indian and Ayurvedic dishes and recipes. Liquorice powder can be added to sweet dishes as an herbal tea or used as described in the Ayurvedic scriptures.
Please note:
Excessive consumption of liquorice should be avoided if you have high blood pressure. Liquorice can contain up to 14% glycyrrhizin. According to the EU recommendation, the daily dose of glycyrrhizin should not exceed 100 mg per day. This corresponds to 700 mg of liquorice (approx. one level teaspoon of liquorice powder).
